PARENTS

Membership in a national fraternity or sorority is one of the many ways in which students can contribute to the University community.

Fraternity and sorority members are committed to scholarship in action, community service, philanthropy, leadership, accountability, brotherhood, sisterhood, and diversity. Membership creates lifelong friendships and provides leadership opportunities that can assist students in their academic and professional endeavors.

The fraternity and sorority community at Syracuse University consists of approximately a wide variety of organizations from which you son or daughter may choose depending on their specific interest. The Office of Student Life, of which Fraternity and Sorority Affairs is an integral part, works closely with recognized chapters to enhance the overall Greek experience by upholding academic and community standards, organization rituals, and University policies governing fraternity and sorority activities.

I invite you, as parents, to become informed about fraternity and sorority life activities, especially the new member education process. We encourage you to talk with your student and encourage him or her to base selection of a fraternity or sorority organization on personal lifestyle and values, general compatibility, and organization goals. Parents can serve as consultants to students as they define themselves during their college years.

Our goal is to ensure that the fraternity or sorority experience at Syracuse provides a safe and enjoyable avenue for students to grow and develop during their college years. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the staff of the Office of Student Life.
